Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Faro airport and transfer to Vila Real de Santo António, located on the Easternmost point of the Algarve, for check-in at your hotel. Upon your arrival at the hotel, our staff will make a brief introduction and briefing of your travel and will give you all the necessary support documentation and hand you the bikes.

Day 2 - Vila Real de Santo António - Tavira 32kms / 300m accumulated height

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel before embarking on your first cycling adventure. Today's ride takes you along the serene coastline, offering easy, flat cycling perfect for a relaxed pace. As you leave Vila Real de Santo António, you'll be greeted by the breathtaking landscapes of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a coastal lagoon teeming with diverse wildlife and lush vegetation. Your first stop is the historic village of Cacela Velha. Perched on a hill overlooking the sea, this charming village is a treasure trove of history and culture. Wander through its narrow cobblestone streets, visit the 16th-century church, and take in the panoramic views of the coastline and the Ria Formosa from the ancient fortifications. Cacela Velha is a perfect spot for a leisurely break, allowing you to soak up the tranquility and beauty of this untouched gem.

Continue your journey westward towards Tavira, a picturesque town known for its rich history and vibrant cultural scene. The route remains delightfully flat, making for an easy and enjoyable ride. As you approach Tavira, the landscape transforms with glimpses of traditional salt pans and the stunning coastline. In Tavira, explore the well-preserved historical center, where you'll find a blend of Roman, Moorish, and Portuguese influences. Stroll along the charming riverfront, cross the ancient Roman bridge, and visit the many churches and museums that dot the town.

Day 3 - Tavira - Faro 41kms / 277m accumulated height

Today's route takes you from Tavira to Faro, following the scenic coastline and offering easy, flat terrain perfect for a leisurely ride. As you leave Tavira, you'll cycle through the picturesque countryside, passing through Luz de Tavira. This charming village is known for its beautiful beaches and tranquil atmosphere. Take a moment to enjoy the pristine sands and crystal-clear waters, a perfect spot for a quick rest and some photos.

Continuing your journey, you'll ride along the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a stunning coastal lagoon that stretches along the Algarve coast. This area is renowned for its diverse wildlife and lush landscapes, providing a peaceful and scenic backdrop for your ride. Your next stop is the bustling town of Olhão, famous for its vibrant market and rich maritime heritage. Explore the lively market, where you can find an array of fresh seafood, local produce, and artisanal goods. Wander through the narrow streets of the old town, admiring the traditional whitewashed houses and Moorish-inspired architecture.

From Olhão, it's a short and easy ride to Faro, the capital of the Algarve. As you approach Faro, you'll be greeted by its historical charm and cultural richness. Explore the well-preserved old town, enclosed by ancient city walls, and visit landmarks such as the Faro Cathedral and the Arco da Vila. After a day of delightful cycling and exploration, relax at the elegant Hotel Faro, located in the heart of the city. Enjoy a delicious dinner at one of Faro's many excellent restaurants, where you can savor local specialties and fresh seafood. 

 

Day 4 – Faro - Olhos de Água - 40kms / 417m accumulated height

Today’s route from Faro to Olhos de Água offers easy terrain with gentle hills, ensuring a pleasant and enjoyable ride. As you leave Faro, you'll continue along the picturesque paths of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The serene landscapes and abundant wildlife provide a tranquil backdrop as you pedal through this unique coastal ecosystem. Enjoy the flat and easy ride as you make your way westward.

Your journey will take you through Vilamoura, a renowned destination known for its luxurious marina and vibrant atmosphere. Take a break to explore Vilamoura’s impressive marina, one of the largest in Portugal, filled with elegant yachts and lined with chic cafes and restaurants. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely coffee or a light snack while enjoying the view.

Continuing along the coast, you’ll reach the stunning Praia da Falésia, one of the Algarve’s most beautiful beaches. The striking red cliffs and expansive golden sands create a breathtaking scene.  The final leg of today’s journey leads you to Olhos de Água, a charming fishing village that has retained its traditional charm despite its popularity. As you approach Olhos de Água, enjoy the scenic views of the coast and the gentle hills that characterize this area.

Day 5 - Olhos de Água - Carvoeiro - 35kms / 532m accumulated height

Today’s ride takes you along the Algarve's scenic coastline, with gentle hills and stunning views making for an enjoyable journey. Leaving Olhos de Água, you’ll cycle through the picturesque countryside and charming coastal villages. The route is filled with beautiful vistas and the serene atmosphere of the Algarve's southern coast.

Your highlight of the day is Albufeira, a bustling town known for its beautiful beaches and lively atmosphere. Cycle through its charming old town with whitewashed buildings and narrow cobblestone streets. Take a break to enjoy the panoramic views from the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

As you continue westward, you'll cycle through more charming villages and scenic landscapes until you reach Carvoeiro. This picturesque fishing village has a stunning beach nestled between cliffs and a lively town center.

Day 6 - Carvoeiro - Lagos  - 39kms / 402m accumulated height

Today's ride offers scenic views and moderate terrain, making for an enjoyable and rewarding journey. Leaving Carvoeiro, you'll cycle through charming coastal villages and picturesque landscapes. Your first highlight of the day is the bustling town of Portimão. Known for its vibrant waterfront and beautiful Praia da Rocha, Portimão offers a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the stunning views of the expansive beach and cliffs.

Continue your ride westward to Alvor, a charming fishing village that has retained its traditional charm. Explore the narrow streets and whitewashed houses, and take a moment to relax at the beautiful Alvor Beach. The calm waters and golden sands provide an ideal setting for a restful pause.

As you approach Lagos, you'll pass by Meia Praia, one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. The expansive sandy shore and clear waters make it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Consider stopping here to soak in the sun and enjoy the refreshing sea breeze.

Finally, arrive in Lagos, a town renowned for its vibrant scene and rich history. Lagos boasts a lively marina, a bustling old town with cobblestone streets, and a wealth of historical sites. Explore the historic center, visit the ancient city walls, and discover the fascinating local museums.

Day 7 – Lagos - Sagres - 50km - 700m accumulated height

Start your day with a delicious breakfast at Hotel WOT Lagos, gearing up for an exciting ride from Lagos to Sagres. Today’s journey offers a mix of scenic coastal views, charming villages, and significant landmarks, making it a highlight of your Algarve adventure.

As you leave Lagos, make sure to visit Ponta da Piedade, a breathtaking natural wonder featuring dramatic cliffs, sea arches, and grottoes. Take some time to explore this stunning area, where the golden cliffs contrast beautifully with the turquoise waters below. Continuing your ride, you’ll pass through the picturesque village of Burgau. This quaint fishing village, with its narrow streets and traditional houses, offers a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful views of the coastline. It’s a perfect spot for a short break and to soak in the local charm.

Next, you’ll cycle through Salema, another charming village known for its beautiful beach and relaxed vibe. The sandy shores and calm waters make it an ideal place to pause and enjoy the serene surroundings. Salema’s traditional character and scenic beauty are sure to enchant you.

As you ride further west, the landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic, reflecting the wild beauty of this part of the Algarve. Your final destination is Sagres, the southernmost point of the Algarve. Known for its dramatic cliffs and historical significance, Sagres offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and a sense of adventure.

In the evening, explore the historic town of Sagres, visit the iconic Sagres Fortress, and take in the panoramic views from Cape St. Vincent, the southwesternmost point of mainland Europe.

Day 8 – Transfer to Faro

Check-out of your hotel. Transfer back to Faro airport/hotel scheduled at 10AM

Faq

Yes, you can, as these are private self-guide tours, for you and your group only. These are subject to availability, as we need to check hotel and bike availability for your preferred dates.
We accept bookings for a minimum of 2 guests on our self-guided bike tours.
We require a down payment of 50% of the value of the tour upon booking. The remaining value us due 30 days before the start date of your tour.
No, we specialized in Self-guided tours, where we provide all that is required for you to complete the tour on your own.
Yes, you can. However, if you choose to do so, you must be responsible for the logistics of carrying your own luggage with your bike, as the luggage carrying systems that we use on our bikes might not be able to fit yours.
If you choose to rent one of our bikes, we'll equip them with 2x20litter rear panniers so you can carry your luggage with you from hotel to hotel, as well as a 2.5litter handlebar bag. We do not operate external luggage transfers services, but we can recommend companies that do that.
The briefing, bike fit and handing over all the information and gear for the tour is done at our Bike Stations in Porto and Lisbon. Our guides will meet you and provide you with a detailed routebook, suggestions and all you need to complete your tour. This briefing can be scheduled for the day before you start the tour (this is our recommendation) or even in the same day that you want to start your ride.
We accept payment via Paypal and any other major credit/debit cards. Payment for all tours and rentals are made entirely upon booking, and online.
If you need to cancel or change your bike tour to unexpected circumstances, our cancellation policy follows below:

Bike tour cancellation requested 120 days before tour:
100% of the value payed is refunded;

Bike tour cancellation requested between 119 to 90 days:
60% of the value payed is refunded;

Bike tour cancellation requested between 89 to 30 days:
50% of the value payed is refunded;

Bike tour cancellation requested 29 days, or less, before the tour:
No refunds;
